September 21, 2007

This morning was the hardest I've had getting up. I think it's because it is starting to get dark earlier and so it doesn't really feel like I should be up that early. I can tell though, that this is going to be a challenge to continue with day after day. My jog this morning was good though. I feel like I have way more energy than I did a few days ago when I first went jogging.

I read an article in Reader's Digest the other day about the power of gratitude. It said that people that find things to be thankful for every day are happier, get better sleep, and are more friendly. With that in mind I decided to use my jogging time to come up with things that I am truly thankful for, like living in a town that I feel safe going anywhere, anytime in. I have already begun using the jogging time as a time for personal prayer so I'm glad I am gaining stamina so that I can jog long enough to pray and be grateful.

Today I went jogging as soon as I got up. It's been a long time since I've done any real excercise, unless you can count carrying 20+ lb. kids in each arm from my car into the church building. Needless to say, but my legs felt like lead had been injected into them after the first block. I had no real place to go, but I kept finding myself crossing streets at angles just to be more efficient. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland when she meets the cheshire cat and asks what path she should take. When the cat asks where she is going, Alice says, "I don't know."

"Then it doesn't matter what path you take," replies the cat.

I came home after jogging for about nine minutes. I am way too out of shape. Maybe after a week or two of jogging I'll start doing some weight lifting.
