Tragedy in Haiti

The recent tragedy in Haiti has been heart breaking to watch. This picture in particular makes it very real for me:

She's such a beautiful girl and the pain of her father carrying her is almost unbearable to see. It's hard to separate the pain on this father's face from the feelings I have felt towards my son dying.

Death is such an interesting phase of this existence. Most of us have experience with a loved one dying, but none of us have experienced it ourselves. President Obama said, "For a country and a people who are no strangers to hardship and suffering, this tragedy seems especially cruel and incomprehensible."

It is certainly incomprehensible. I'm not sure how I feel about the word cruel though. I believe there is a purpose for everything that happens and I believe God loves us all and wants the best for us. I pray that this experience will lead us to be more loving and compassionate. I also hope that the spotlight on Haiti leads to a better future for those living there.
